SAN LUIS OBISPO RATTLERS PLAYER RULES

  1. BE ON TIME. This means being ready to start at the designated time. Five minutes early is ten minutes late! Let someone on the coaching staff know, in advance, if you will be late, or absent, for any reason. Absences will be substantial cause for removal from the team.
  2. HUSTLE. Hustle is imperative to the success of the program. It requires no talent to HUSTLE. Play the game at a fast pace. In games, we will SPRINT on and of the field. We will SPRINT hard on every base hit, ground ball, fly ball, pop-up, and walk! Maximum effort will be expected of all players. The only time you do not have to run is to and from home plate to hit, and when pitching. No matter what the situation or score...WE WILL PLAY HARD AND WE WILL PLAY THE ENTIRE GAME!!!
  3. NO TRASH TALKING. We will encourage our teammates, not degrade the opponent.
  4. SUPPORT YOUR TEAMMATES. We are not successful individually. It takes everyone striving for a single goal to achieve success. Your teammate's success should be your success. Do not yell or make gestures towards your teammates during a game. No one makes mistakes on purpose. Everyone has made an error, struck out, or given up a hit. We are a team first, individuals second. Treat your teammates with the respect you would expect.
  5. PLAY WITH PRIDE, CONFIDENCE, AND DISCIPLINE. These attributes are shown by your actions, and not your words. Do not give in to anyone. We can compete with anybody. You respect the opponent, but we are afraid of no one. Our goal is to let teams know they are in for a battle when playing the Rattlers.
  6. REPRESENT THE PROGRAM. You are expected to display integrity and humility, both on and off the field. You are representing your community, your school, your family, and the SLO Rattlers Baseball program. Conduct yourselves accordingly. If you find yourself in a position that could jeopardize the program or yourself, leave immediately.
  7. NO INSUBORDINATION. Do not talk back to coaches or umpires. No throwing of equipment...period. If something needs to be addressed with an umpire, the coaches will handle it. Maintain your composure. Treat your coaches and umpires with respect.
  8. NO EXCUSES. Take responsibility for your actions. Baseball is based on failure. Overcoming those failures and moving on is what makes a team successful. No individual is the cause of a loss or a win. It is a team effort. Learn from your mistakes and move on. Concentrate on what is taking place now. That is the situation you have control over. Play our game and do not worry about what the other team is doing or saying.
  9. CONTRIBUTIONS. Not everyone can play. However, all players should remain actively involved in what is happening on the field at all times. Know the situations of the games, the score, and the inning. Players not playing in the game will warm up players, shag balls, keep charts, as well as any other duties that may be assigned. This includes positive encouragement to teammates. Players who do not contribute, or who are involved in continual conversation concerning things other than the game of Baseball, will not be allowed to be a part of the program, and will be removed from the team.
  10. COMMUNICATION. Managers and Coaches are available to talk anytime. We are here for your guidance and support in Baseball and life. NO PROBLEM IS TOO SMALL! Teaching Baseball is our goal, but helping helping the players in real life situations is something we pride ourselves on. The SLO Rattlers are a family, and we stick together. Manager Roy Howell will handle disciplinary actions accordingly, with full backing of the SLO Rattlers.
