2009 All-CCL Team and League Honors Released

August 5th, 2009  -  The 2009 All-CCL First Team and League Honors list was released today.

SLO Rattlers C Josh Jackson (Fresno Pacific University) was once again named the CCL's All-League Catcher.  This is the second year in a row Jackson has received this honor.  Jackson finished with 56 points, well ahead of 2nd place finisher Matt Scioscia (Notre Dame) of the Conejo Oaks.  Jackson was also voted the CCL's Best Defensive Catcher, and tied for 1st with Santa Barbara Forester's C Patric Tolentino (Redlands) for the CCL's Best Catcher's Arm.

1B Joe Weik (TCU) finished 2nd overall in the CCL League MVP voting, finishing 7 points (75-68) behind Conejo Oaks 1B David Casey (Notre Dame).
Weik received three 1st place votes, five 2nd place votes, five 3rd place votes, one 4th place vote, and one 5th place vote for a total of 6 points.  Casey received 6six 1st place votes,six 2nd place votes, and three 4th place votes for 75 points. 
Weik finished 2nd to Casey once again in the voting for the CCL's All-League First Baseman.  Weik finished with 65 points to Casey's 68 points.
Weik did finish tied with 1B James Wharton (LA Pierce) of the Santa Barbara Foresters for 1st in the CCL's Best Defensive First Baseman, with both players receiving 52 points. 
Weik finished in 8th in the voting for the CCL's Best Hitting Prospect, and in 10th place in the CCL's Best Power Prospect voting.

RHP Richie Mirowski (Cuesta College) finished in 5th place in the CCL Most Outstanding Pitcher voting,
with 45 points.  LHP Matt Leonard of the Santa Barbara Foresters (Cal Poly) was named the CCL's Most Outstanding Pitcher, garnering 78 points.  Leonard threw a complete game no-hitter against the SLO Rattlers on Friday, July 17th, 2009.
Mirowski was finished 4th in the CCL's All-League Starting Pitcher vote, finished 6th in the CCL's Best Pitching Prospect category, finished 3rd in the CCL's Best Fastball category, and finished 10th in the CCL's Best Breaking Pitch category.

RHP Adam Clerici (Orem Owlz - Rookie) was voted the CCL's Best Relief Pitcher.
LHP Danny Price (Westmont College) finished 8th in the voting for the CCL's Best Relief Pitcher, and RHP Brandon Van Dam (CSU Bakersfield) finished 9th.
Price also finished 5th in the voting for the CCL's Best Breaking Pitch.

SS Mike Miller (Cal Poly) finished 4th in the All-League Shortstop voting,
finishing with 25 points.  SS Brandon Loy (Texas) of the Foresters received 59 points and was named the CCL's Best Shortstop.
Miller finished 2nd in the voting for the CCL's Best Defensive Shortstop.

CF Mitch Haniger received one 3rd place vote, and finished 7th with 6 points in the voting for the CCL's Best Outfielders.
Haniger also finshed 4th in the voting for the CCL's Best Outfield Arm.

C/DH Beau Fraser (University of Portland) finished 4th in the All-League DH/Utility voting.

RHP Joey Parsons (Cuesta College/Virginia Tech) finished 9th in the All-League Starting Pitcher vote.

2B/SS Bobby Buckner (Texas A&M) finished in 6th place in the voting for the CCL's Best Defensive Second Baseman.

Manager Roy Howell, last summer's CCL Manager of the Year, finished 3rd in the voting this season. 

The SLO Rattlers Organization would like to congratulate ALL of the 2009 All-CCL recognized players.  The CCL is a highly competitive league, with some of the best College talent in America, and to even be named on the ballot is a high honor.  We wish the best of luck to ALL of the players in their future playing careers, and we hope they enjoyed their playing time in the California Collegiate League.
