WALK OFF DOUBLE LIFTS SLO RATTLERS OVER INDIANS
San Luis Obispo, Calif. - The San Luis Obispo Rattlers got back on the winning track tonight by beating league rival Santa Maria Indians at SInsheimer Stadium tonight on the strength of a walk off two run double by first baseman Brian McConkey, 3 for 4. Second baseman Evan Busby, 2 for 3, touched home plate first after a triple by McConkey scored him in the first inning to give the Rattlers an early 1-0 lead. The Rattlers put up another run in the second inning when Busby singled to score left fielder Casey Lytle, 3 for 4, from second. Designated hitter Graham Harrison scored the third run after Lytle singled through the left side. The Indians tied the game on a three run shot over right field by center fielder Jimmy Dodos in the fifth inning and took the lead the next inning scoring one run on one hit and a Rattlers error. Things weren't looking good in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Indians had their stud closer Eusebio pitching, but the Rattlers didn't care. Left fielder Kellen Moriarty and Busby both walked and with one out McConkey, the Gus's Grocery and Deli player of the game, crushed a walk off two run double deep to center field to give the Rattlers the victory, 5-4. This win keeps the Rattlers in contention for the CCL league title. The Rattlers (28-20 overall, 16-12 CCL) will take a few days off to rest and then play their final game of the season against the CCL leading Santa Barbara Foresters at UCSB on July 29. First pitch is at 5:00 p.m. |

SLO RATTLERS FALL TO SB FORESTERS IN IMPORTANT LEAGUE GAME Goleta, Calif. - In one of the most important California Collegiate League games of the summer season the San Luis Obispo Rattlers lost 14-1 to the Santa Barbara Foresters at Caesar Uyesaka Stadium in UCSB. Rattlers second baseman Evan Busby was hit in the leg by the fourth pitch of the game and later scored on a fielder's choice when left fielder Casey Lytle grounded out to the shortstop. In the third inning Foresters third baseman Ryan Goetz grounded out and knocked in shortstop Sean Nicol from third to tie the game. The Foresters (28-14 overall, 14-9 CCL) rallied in the fourth inning to score three runs on two hits and tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning to bring the lead to 6-1. A fight almost broke out in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two men on and no outs, Foresters center fielder Chad Mozingo was up to bat and called time, but Rattlers reliever Brendan Moe was mid windup and hurled the ball anyways, barely missing Mozingo's head. Mozingo threw his bat down and yelled obscenities at Moe, who stood his ground. The benches cleared but coaches from both teams kept order on the field and no punches were thrown. Rattlers manager Roy Howell removed Moe from the game and brought in outfielder Ryan Smith to pitch. The Foresters went on to score five runs in the inning. The Foresters scored three more runs in the eighth inning and the game ended with the score 14-1. The Rattlers drop to second place in the CCL after the loss and Rattlers starting pitcher Mason Radeke falls to 5-3. The Rattlers (27-19 overall, 15-11 CCL) will travel to Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, Calif. tomorrow to play the Conejo Oaks in another important CCL match up. First pitch is at 5 p.m. |
